Women's Bureau Director Shinae Chun talks about the importance of saving to Hispanic women in Phoenix.

The Women's Bureau is pleased to announce that our new initiative focused on improving financial literacy among Hispanic women - "Las Mujeres y el Dinero" - has enjoyed a successful launch through two events held in Phoenix and San Antonio. We had magnificent partners that helped make the events an educational and meaningful experience for participants and presenters alike.

As announced in September 2003, the Women's Bureau is sponsoring a series of ten educational conferences across the country designed to enhance financial literacy among Hispanic women. As Director Shinae Chun remarked to Phoenix participants, "Knowledge is power, and by sharing this knowledge, we hope to empower you so that you - today - can truly impact your retirement savings for tomorrow".

HWC works to empower Latinas through its commitment to culture by promoting education, community involvement, professional advancement and leadership development.

The Women's Bureau was proud to have worked with the HWC because of their commitment and success in empowering Hispanic women. Speaker Julie Stav joined Director Chun to kick-off the event where she delivered a dynamic talk about saving prior to the workshop sessions.

AVANCE believes that education starts in the home and parents are the first teachers. They work hard to help Hispanic women become better educated, to positively impact their parental skills. Our admiration and gratitude goes out to AVANCE's leader Gloria Rodriquez - the event not only helped Hispanic women improve their understanding of finances, it served to advance the shared goals of the Women's Bureau and AVANCE, which is to strengthen families and their communities.

Hispanic women learn about financial security at the John F. Kennedy High School in San Antonio, Texas. The Women's Bureau will continue to work with wonderful partners like the Hispanic Women's Corporation and AVANCE to bring financial education to Hispanic women across the country in 2004. Our goal is to reach 5,000 women through dynamic programs, exciting speakers and strong partnerships with local governments, organizations and other entities.
