In February, we held a conference in Miami. In partnership with the Human Services Corporation, this conference at Miami-Dade College attracted over 350 women from all backgrounds: Haitian, Latina, African-American, and other populations of women who were interested in learning more about how to save money. It was impressive to see women who were so energized! They spent the day attending financial education workshops and visiting vendors of financial services. One vendor even did credit reports.
The theme was "Pathway to Prosperity". We are thankful for the dedication of our partner, the Human Services Coalition, and their work in promoting financial security as a way to avoid debt through the Greater Miami Prosperity Campaign.
Women's Bureau Director Shinae Chun stated, "I would be more financially secure today if I had attended a conference like this one when I was younger".
"One
businesswoman, Maria, who is particularly interested in starting her own
business, was impressed by how easy it was to get information that could really
make a difference in her future. She loved that she could take it home with her
to review as often as she needed and can now create a resource for her, her
family and friends".
--- Daniella Levine, Human Services
Coalition
The
next event was in Philadelphia on March 27th. Entitled "Women Saving Money for
the Future", this event prompted a diverse group of women to start saving
money. Temple University hosted the day of empowerment that included bilingual
financial education workshops, exhibits and prominent Latinas as certified
financial experts.
"I
found the conference to be very informative. The presenters were excellent -
very knowledgeable".
--- Annie Long, Abington, PA
"I thank
you for taking the time to talk with me and to help me".
--- Delores
Brown, Triumphant Faith Church, Philadelphia, PA
