OPEIU Local 30
Marianne Giordano is President of OPEIU Local 30, based in San Diego. She has served on the Executive Board since 1999 and has been a shop steward since 2000. In addition to her leadership of Local 30, Giordano is a leader of the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions—a federation of 29 local and six international unions that joined with Kaiser Permanente in 1997 to form the Labor Management Partnership (LMP). LMP is the largest and most comprehensive such partnership in the United States, representing more than 90,000 Kaiser Permanente employees.
Giordano has worked for Kaiser Permanente since 1989 as a cardiac ultrasound technologist in the Internal Medicine Cardiology Department at Kaiser San Diego Medical Center. She currently serves on Kaiser Permanente’s San Diego Labor Management Partnership Council as the labor co-chair. She also is a Union Partnership Representative, to promote and support activities that expand union capacity and advance the work of the Partnership.
In addition, Giordano is active on several committees at Kaiser Permanente, including Workplace Safety, which she chairs, and the local Diversity Council. She is a member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women, Pride, and San Diego NAACP.
In 2007, Giordano was given the Local 30’s Gwen Newton Award for inspirational leadership. This award acknowledges those members who give of themselves to motivate and inspire others to excel and to promote union capacity. She also has received Kaiser Permanente San Diego’s Spotlight on Leadership Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in leadership.
