lyle.beverly@dol.gov Welcome to the Women's Bureau Region VI web page. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the Regional Office provides services to women living in the five States of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas -- an area that encompasses 547,450 square miles of terrain which is as diverse as its people. From locales in Louisiana that are below sea level to the 13,161 foot Wheeler Peek in New Mexico, traveling throughout the region one can experience the bayou, marshlands, deserts, hot springs, lush forests, rolling hills, majestic mountains, prairies, plains, plateaus, rivers, lakes and sea coast. This region is culturally rich reaping the benefits of a large Hispanic/Latino population in New Mexico and a significant African-American population and a strong French heritage in Louisiana. Oklahoma boasts having the largest American Indian population of any State in the U.S.A. Arkansas' diversity reflects that of the nation with a growing Hispanic population. And Texas enjoys the contributions of all ethnic and racial groups including an emerging Asian American population. A myriad of important industries contributes to the vitality of the region: agriculture, poultry farming, cattle ranching, commercial fishing, forestry, trucking, construction, retail trade, shipbuilding, educational institutions and government, oil and gas, high finance and high technology. Please take the opportunity to explore the WebPage. As you click on each State, you will find more specific statistical data on women. We hope you will find this information helpful and visit often.
