Women's Bureau Region Two -- New York Serving New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, Virgin IslandsRegion II StaffGrace Protos, Regional Administrator, protos.grace@dol.gov Welcome to the Women's Bureau, Region II WebPage. The headquarters for the Regional Office is in New York City. The region covers a territory of approximately 58,624 square miles and provides services to women living in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The region has diverse economies and social groups with very different needs. The Region is a combination of vast metropolitan areas, remote rural areas, villages and islands. New Jersey referred to as the Garden State, because of its lavish production of produce. It has a variety of industries which include pharmaceutical, education, petroleum and health-care. New Jersey and New York are key distribution centers for the Northeast. New York is considered the Empire State. With a large population residing in the metropolitan area of New York City, it is home of the Wall Street financial district and headquarters to a number of Fortune 500 companies. The vibrant culture of the city includes performing and visual arts museums and a wide choice of entertainment. Thus, is a major attraction for tourism. In contrast to the metropolitan area, upstate New York has vast agricultural resources in addition to other industries. The beautiful Caribbean Islands of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are host to a major tourism industry, The important migration patterns into New York and New Jersey, make the Islands an integral part of Region II.
