Question: What is the minimum wage?
Answer: The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $5.85 per hour
effective July 24, 2007. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
establishes the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping and child labor
standards affecting workers in the private sector and in Federal, State and
local governments. Where state law requires a higher minimum wage rate, the
higher standard applies. To obtain information about your state minimum wage,
check with your Women's Bureau
Regional Office.
