
 Administration committed to helping women-owned
businesses
Administrator Hector V. Barreto, of the Small
Business Administration (SBA), reported at the "Women Entrepreneurship in the
21st Century" conference, that his agency is doing more to help level the
playing field for women entrepreneurs. America's 9.1 million women-owned
businesses continue to grow in numbers and influence - yet women continue to
face some unique obstacles in the world of business.

Challenge for Women Business Owners As an example of the Administration's commitment
to e-government, SBA Administrator Hector Barreto touted his agency's
award-winning website as an important resource for the needs of women business
owners. From writing a business plan to government contracting opportunities
and exporting overseas to accessing capital, Administrator Barreto encouraged
attendees to utilize the services of the
SBA.

Cost remains biggest obstacle
to providing health insurance Throughout the two-day event, attendees were given
opportunities to give feedback to speakers. In reviewing the top concerns of
women business owners, Administration officials pledged to focus on these top
issues. The issues women-business owners identified as key priorities included:
tax incentives to encourage private investment, reforms to help make the
nation's health care system more accountable and affordable, and changes in
government contracting to increase accountability and opportunity for
women-owned businesses.
