Director, Office of Agency Management and Budget
Veterans' Employment and Training Service
Paul Briggs has served as Director of the Office of Agency
Management and Budget at the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, United
States Department of Labor since March, 2005. The Director exercises executive direction of
administration, budget, financial management, information technology,
performance management, strategic planning, internal control program, human
resources, procurement and contracts.
He retired as a Colonel, United States Marine Corps in 2002,
following a thirty-year military career. He joined the Labor Department in September 2002 in the Department’s
Senior Executive Service (SES) Candidate Development Program. Prior to his current position, he served as the Agency’s Deputy Director of Operations and Programs from September 2004 to March 2005.

Idaho, Briggs graduated from
Idaho
State
University and was commissioned
a Marine Second Lieutenant in 1972, following officer training. He served in operational assignments on
active duty and in the Reserve as an aviation command and control officer,
achieving tactical ratings as weapons controller, senior weapons director and
senior air director. In 1985, he was
selected to serve in the Marine Corps’ Active Reserve Program. From the rank of Major through Colonel, he
served in a variety of senior positions in training, operations, policies and
plans in
Washington,
DC;
Camp Pendleton,
CA
and
New Orleans,
LA.
Briggs was an inter-service team selection and competitor on
the U.S. NATO Military Pentathlon Team in 1980, 81, 83 and 84. He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command
and
Staff
College,
holds an MA from the U.S. Naval War College and a Certificate in National
Security Studies from the
National
Defense
University.
His military decorations include
the Defense Superior Service Medal, two Legions of Merit, two Meritorious
Service Medals, the Naval Commendation Medal, the Naval Achievement Medal, the
Secretary of Defense Staff Badge and numerous other service medals and unit
citations.
He is the recipient of eight
Secretary’s Achievement Awards for service at the U.S. Labor Department |
