Town hall meetings in North Augusta, South Carolina, on Aug. 20 to assist nuclear weapons workers to be hosted by the US Labor Department

North Augusta, S.C. — Two town hall meetings on Wednesday, Aug. 20, will be hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor in North Augusta to provide the public with information about the medical benefits provided under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.

The EEOICPA was created to assist individuals who became ill as a result of working in the nuclear weapons industry. At the town hall meetings, specific information will be discussed concerning home health care services. Officials from the department’s Jacksonville, Florida, district office and Savannah River, South Carolina, resource center will be available before and after each presentation to assist individuals with the filing of new claims under the EEOICPA and provide claimants with status updates on their existing EEOICPA claims.

The department works with physicians who have enrolled in the program, home health care providers and approved beneficiaries to ensure that the medical benefits afforded under the EEOICPA are handled in a fair and expeditious manner. The EEOICPA is administered by the Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation, part of the department’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs.

To date, $565.1 million in EEOICPA compensation and medical benefits has been paid to 4,315 claimants living in South Carolina, $210.1 million has been paid to 1,976 claimants living in Georgia, and more than $10.6 billion has been paid nationwide.

For additional information about the upcoming town hall meetings or to schedule an appointment for claim-filing assistance, contact the department’s Savannah River resource center toll-free at 866-666-4606. These meetings are open to the public, and pre-registration is not required. The information presented at each meeting will be the same. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
