U.S. Department of Labor assists nuclear weapons workers
Traveling Resource Center to make stop in Washington, Pennsylvania

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Laborís Traveling Resource Center will visit Washington, Pa., during the month of July to provide information about two new classes of former employees recently added to the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Actís (EEOICPA) Special Exposure Cohort (SEC): employees at Vitro Manufacturing in Canonsburg, Pa., and those at Westinghouse Atomic Power Development Plant in East Pittsburgh, Pa. Traveling Resource Center staff will also assist individuals with filing claims under the EEOICPA.

The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to employees who became ill as a result of working in the nuclear weapons industry. An employee who is included in a designated SEC class of employees, and who is diagnosed with one of 22 specified cancers, may receive a presumption of causation under the EEOICPA. The new SEC class of former employees at Vitro Manufacturing includes all Atomic Weapons Employer (AWE) employees who worked at Vitro Manufacturing from Aug. 13, 1942 through Dec. 31, 1957, for at least 250 work days, occurring either solely under this employment or in combination with work days within other classes of employees in the SEC.

The new SEC class of former employees at Westinghouse Atomic Power Development Plant includes all AWE employees who worked at the plant from Aug. 13, 1942 through Dec. 31, 1944, for at least 250 work days, occurring either solely under this employment or in combination with work days within other classes of employees in the SEC.

Stationary resource centers are based in 11 locations nationwide and provide in-person and telephone-based assistance to service individuals regardless of where they live. The Departmentís Traveling Resource Center takes these services on the road to assist employees in the EEOICPA claims filing process. For additional information about the Traveling Resource Center or to schedule an appointment for claim-filing assistance, please contact the Departmentís New York Resource Center toll-free at 800-941-3943.
