Town Hall Meetings in Bolingbrook, Illinois
Joint Outreach Technical Group (JOTG) Hosts Town Hall Meetings in Bolingbrook, Illinois, to assist Nuclear Weapons Workers – On June 19, 2013, DEEOIC Director Rachel Leiton, gave an overview of Parts B and E of the EEOICPA at two town hall meetings hosted by the Joint Outreach Task Group (JOTG) in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The purpose of these town hall meetings was to provide former nuclear weapons workers, including those who worked at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and at Argonne National Laboratory East, with information about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). A total of 135 individuals attended these meetings and obtained information about the EEOICPA. Representatives from the Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC) are members of the JOTG along with representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and its Former Worker Medical Screening Program, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Department of Labor’s Office of the Ombudsman for the EEOICPA.
Amrene Smith, Technical Assistant for the Cleveland district office provided claim status updates at the meetings and assisted existing EEOICPA claimants one-on-one. Jill Dismore of the Paducah resource center (RC) assisted with new claim filings and Mary Dunne, Program Support Specialist for the Branch of Outreach and Technical Assistance provided logistical support.
In addition to DEEOIC Director Rachel Leiton presenting, other members of the JOTG also presented including Malcolm Nelson, the Ombudsman for the EEOICPA; Greg Macievic, Health Physicist with NIOSH’s Division of Compensation Analysis and Support; Greg Lewis, Director of DOE’s Office of Worker Screening and Compensation Support, and John McInerney MD, from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
