Title: Abbreviated Bitrix Qualitative Fit-Testing Protocol |
|
|
Abstract: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published the revised standard for respiratory protection on January 8, 1998. Appendix A of this standard currently lists four challenge agents permitted for use in qualitative fit testing protocols; these include isoamyl acetate, saccharin aerosol solution, irritant smoke, and Bitrix (denatonium benzoate). The standard also includes procedures that allow parties to submit new fit testing protocols for notice-and-comment rulemaking under section 6(b)(7) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. OSHA has been requested to consider adding a new fit testing protocol that modifies the existing Bitrix protocol, and is undergoing rulemaking to seek public comment and determine whether to amend the fit testing provisions of the standard to include the proposed protocol. The NPRM was published on December 26, 2007. OSHA withdraw the proposed rule on June 25, 2009 (74 FR 30250). |
