Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and
Health Charles N. Jeffress announced today that nominations are being accepted
until June 5, 1998 for membership on the National Advisory Committee on
Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH).
Nominations will be considered for eight vacancies: two
public representatives; two management representatives; two labor
representatives and two safety representatives. Four additional members will be
recommended by Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna E. Shalala,
including two occupational health representatives and two public
representatives.
I look forward to actively using
the committee members to discover fresh approaches to protecting the health of
Americas workers, said Jeffress. Their wealth of experience
will be a valuable resource in helping OSHA accomplish its critical
mission.
Established under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970, NACOSH advises the secretaries of labor and health and human services on
matters relating to the administration of the act. Members of the 12-person
advisory committee are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and experience in
occupational safety and health.
Six members will have one-year terms and the remaining six
will hold the position for two years. Any person or organization may nominate
one or more qualified individuals. Each nomination should specify the category
the candidate would represent and include a resume.
Nominations may be submitted to Frank Frodyma, Acting
Director of Policy, OSHA, Room N-3641, US Department of Labor, 200 Constitution
Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210.
Notice of the request for nominations appeared in the April
23,1998, Federal Register. All meetings of the full committee are open
to the public. They are announced in the Federal Register.
