The Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health
(ACCSH) will hold a public meeting April 8 and 9 in Washington, D.C.
ACCSH advises Assistant Secretary of Labor Charles N.
Jeffress, who serves as head of the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), on standards and policies related to the protection of
construction workers from worksite hazards.
The committee will meet from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday,
April 8, and from 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in Room N3437 B, C
and D, Frances Perkins Building, U.S. Department of Labor Building, 200
Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20210.
The agenda for April 8 will include a welcome from Tim
Nichols, chairman, and a welcome and discussion of OSHA's goals and objectives
for construction by Assistant Secretary Jeffress.
On April 8, ACCSH and OSHA also will discuss:
- A proposed standard regarding employer responsibility to pay for
personal protective equipment;
- An historical overview of activities of previous ACCSH work groups,
including training, safety and health programs, women in construction, washing
facilities, confined space entry, scaffolding and sanitation and
decontamination;
- OSHA rulemaking activities regarding the construction industry,
including steel erection, fall protection and respiratory protection; and
- OSHA Compliance Links -- an OSHA computer information system.
On April 9, ACCSH and OSHA will discuss:
- General activities of the directorate of construction, including
reports on OSHA special emphasis programs in construction, residential
construction grants and construction industry statistics; and
- Special recognition programs for construction.
Also on April 9, the National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH) will brief ACCSH on its construction research
projects.
