OSHA Press Release: OSHA Head Announces 15 Members of Rechartered Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health [02/25/1998]

Appointment of 15 members to the rechartered Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH) was announced today by Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Charles N. Jeffress.

ACCSH advises the assistant secretary, who serves as head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), on standards and policies related to the protection of construction workers from worksite hazards.

The committee, rechartered on Nov. 7, 1997, consists of five representatives each of employers and employees, two state government representatives, two public representatives, and one member designated by the Secretary of Health and Human Services(HHS), usually from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Members are appointed by the assistant secretary.

The newly appointed members are:

Employee Representatives

Tim Lee Nichols, Director of External Relations, AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department, Washington, D.C. He also will serve as committee chairperson for two years.

Stephen D. Cooper, Executive Director, Occupational Safety and Health, International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers, AFL-CIO, Washington, D.C., for a one-year term.

Larry A. Edginton, Director of Safety and Health, International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO, Washington, D.C., for a two-year term.

Gladys Harrington, Training Coordinator, Assistant Director and EEO Officer, International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 138, AFL-CIO, Farmingdale, N.Y., for a two-year term.

William C. Rhoten, Director of Safety and Health, United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the U.S. and Canada, AFL-CIO, Washington, D.C., for a one-year term.

Employer Representatives

Stewart Burkhammer, Vice President and Manager of Safety & Health Services, Bechtel Corp., Gaithersburg, Md., for a one-year term.

Stephen Cloutier, Corporate Safety/Loss Prevention Manager, J.A. Jones Construction, Charlotte, N.C., for a one-year term.

Felipe Devora, Safety Director, Fretz Construction Co., Houston, Tex., for a two-year term.

Robert Masterson, Manager, Safety and Loss Control, The Ryland Group, Columbia, Md., for a one-year term.

Owen Smith, President, Anazalone & Associates, Sylmar, Calif., for a two-year term.

Public Representatives

Michael Buchet, Construction Division Manager, National Safety Council, Itasca, Ill., for a one-year term.

Jane F. Williams, Safety & Health Consultant, Scottsdale, Ariz., for a two-year term.

State Safety and Health Representatives

Danny Evans, Chief Administrative Officer, OSH Enforcement Division of Industrial Relations, Nevada Department of Business and Industry, Carson City, Nev., for a two-year term.

Harry Payne, Commissioner, North Carolina Department of Labor, Raleigh, N.C., for a one-year term.

HHS Representative

Marie Haring-Sweeney, Ph.D., Construction Coordinator for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Cincinnati, Ohio, for a one-year term.
