The Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and
Health (MACOSH) will meet Jan. 28-29, 1998, in Alexandria, Va.
The public meeting will be held in the Ramada Hotel, Old
Town, 901 North Fairfax St., Alexandria, VA 22314, phone: (703) 683-6000, and
will begin at 9 a.m and end at approximately 5 p.m. each day.
At the meeting, the committee will:
- advise the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA )on
the development of an operating plan to meet its strategic goal of achieving a
15 percent reduction in injuries and illnesses in the shipyard industry;
- explore innovative outreach and training partnerships;
- discuss maritime applications of Cooperative Compliance Programs; and
- receive an update on major OSHA initiatives for Fiscal Year 1998.
MACOSH will meet as a whole and also in small focus groups.

Written data, views or comments for consideration by the
committee should be submitted, preferably with 20 copies, to Larry Liberatore,
OSHA, Office of Maritime Standards, Room N-3621, U.S. Department of Labor, 200
Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, DC, 20210, phone: (202) 219-7234; fax: (202)
219-7477. Any submissions received prior to the meeting will be provided to the
members of the committee and included in the meeting record.
Anyone wishing to make an oral presentation should notify
Larry Liberatore before the meeting. The request should include the amount of
time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear and a brief outline
of the content of the presentation. Oral presentations will be limited to
statements of facts and views and will not include any questioning of committee
members or other participants unless the questions have been approved by the
chairperson. Persons who request the opportunity to address the committee may
be allowed to speak, as time permits, at the discretion of the chairperson.
The committee advises the Assistant Secretary of Labor for
Occupational Safety and Health, Charles N. Jeffress, on issues relating to the
delivery of occupational safety and health programs, policies and standards
affecting the U.S. maritime industry. The 16 committee members have been
appointed from government agencies, the shipbuilding and longshoring
industries, labor and professional associations.

29, 1997, Federal Register.
