The National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and
Health (NACOSH) will meet Aug. 4, 1997, in Washington, D.C., the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced today.
The committee will hear a brief overview of current OSHA and National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) activities along with
regulatory and legislative updates. Other issues to be discussed include OSHA's
program to protect workers against discrimination for exercising safety and
health rights in the workplace (11(c) program), cooperative compliance
programs, OSHA strategic and annual performance plans and a report on a recent
ergonomics conference.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 9:00 a.m. and
last until about 3:30 p.m. in Room N3437 of the Frances Perkins Building at 200
Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.
Written data, views or comments may be submitted, preferably with 20
copies, to Joanne Goodell, Directorate of Policy, Room N3641, 200 Constitution
Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Submissions received by Aug. 1, 1997, will
be provided to committee members and included in the meeting records. An
official record of the meeting will be available for public inspection at
OSHA's Technical Data Center in Room N2625 of the Frances Perkins Building.
Anyone wishing to make an oral presentation should contact Joanne
Goodell at the above address no later than July 25, 1997. The request should
state the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear
and a brief outline of the content of the presentation. Persons who request the
opportunity to address the committee may be allowed to speak, as time permits,

NACOSH was established under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970 to advise the secretaries of labor and health and human services on
occupational safety and health programs and policies. Members of the 12-person
advisory committee are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and experience in
occupational safety and health.
