Users of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's 1997 CD-ROM
can now print individual documents easily, link to new agency documents on the
Internet and easily install the disc on networks for about half the cost of the
old version.
New search software on the 1997 release of OSHA's popular CD-ROM has
both cut the cost and expanded the options for users, the agency announced
today. For $38, instead of $77, purchasers will get a one-year subscription
including four quarterly discs or they can buy a single disc for $15.
The OSHA poster is now included on the disc, and CD-ROM buyers can print
it out, in color or black and white, on two pages that can be taped together.
Another new feature on the disc helps the user link to new information on
OSHA's Internet site added after release of the disc. Also the "Help" section
is now easier to use.
OSHA's CD-ROM gives users all they want to know about OSHA--and more. It
includes all OSHA standards, the OSH Act and Federal Register notices as well
as preambles to final rules (unavailable in the Code of Federal Regulations),
Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission decisions, Mine Safety and
Health Administration standards and OSHA compliance advisor software.
Also on the disk are standards interpretations and frequently asked
questions, corporate-wide settlement agreements, fact sheets, the Field
Inspection Reference Manual, the Construction Resource Manual, variances, the
OSHA Technical Manual, Congressional testimony and speeches, chemical sampling
information, OSHA directives and compliance memos, hazard information
bulletins, analytical methods for toxic substance samples, memoranda of
understanding with other agencies, listings of Nationally Recognized Testing
Laboratories and approved blood lead testing labs, Bureau of Labor Statistics
recordkeeping guidelines and other documents.
The OSHA CD-ROM supports Windows, Macintosh and DOS-based computers.
While the disc will work on networks now, only one user can access it at a
time. Windows users can jump from one related document to another through
hypertext links. PC users can search the text of materials, display documents
and view images. Release A97-1 is current through January 15, 1997.
Titled "OSHA Regulations, Documents, and Technical Information on
CD-ROM," the disc can be purchased from the Government Printing Office (GPO)as
a one-year subscription (stock number 729-013-00000-5) for $38 or as a single
disc for $15. GPO will accept VISA, MasterCard or GPO Deposit Account charges.
Written orders must be prepaid. Mail checks, payable to Superintendent of
Documents, along with orders to GPO, Washington, D.C. 20402. For telephone
orders, call (202) 512-1800 or fax (202) 512-2250.
Currently GPO sends out more than 14,000 OSHA CD-ROM discs each quarter.
OSHA's disc is the government's best-selling subscription CD-ROM.
Installation instructions, user instructions and a description of
information on the CD-ROM are included in a small booklet enclosed in the
CD-ROM case. OSHA's CD-ROM help desk at (801) 487-0680 can provide further
information and answer questions on the product.
