The National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and
Health (NACOSH) will meet April 9-10, 1997, in Washington, D.C., the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced today.
Also, Dr. Michael Tapper, a physician who serves in the
section of infectious diseases and hospital epidemiology at New York City's
Lenox Hill Hospital, will be joining the committee as a public representative.
Selected by Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Donna E. Shalala to
one of the four committee slots allotted to HHS, Tapper is filling a vacant
position. Tapper was nominated by the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of
America to fill a term that ends in June 1998.
Agenda items for the committee meeting include a brief
overview of current OSHA and National Institute for Occupational Safety and
Health (NIOSH) activities, regulatory and legislative updates, performance
measurement issues, NIOSH response to the Government Performance and Results
Act (GPRA) and reports from NACOSH work groups on performance measurement and
ergonomics.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at
9:00 a.m. each day in Room N3437 of the Frances Perkins Building at 200
Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. The April 9 session is scheduled to
end at 4:00 p.m. and the April 10 meeting at 3:30 p.m.
Written data, views or comments may be submitted,
preferably with 20 copies, to Joanne Goodell, Directorate of Policy, Room
N3641, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Submissions
received prior to the meeting will be provided to committee members and
included in the meeting records. An official record of the meeting will be
available for public inspection at OSHA's Technical Data Center in Room N2625
of the Frances Perkins Building.
Anyone wishing to make an oral presentation should contact
Joanne Goodell at the above address. The request should state the amount of
time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear and a brief outline
of the content of the presentation. Persons who request the opportunity to
address the committee may be allowed to speak, as time permits, at the

NACOSH was established under the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of 1970 to advise the secretaries of labor and health and human
services on occupational safety and health programs and policies. Members of
the 12-person advisory committee are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and
experience in occupational safety and health.

appear in the March 12, 1997, Federal Register.
