OSHA Press Release: OSHA Construction Advisory Committee To Meet March 13-14 [02/28/1997]

The Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH) will meet in Washington March 13-14 to discuss construction activities and rulemakings, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced today.

Several ACCSH work groups will be convening prior to the full committee session as well. Most sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. in the Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. The following sessions, all open to the public, are scheduled:

ACCSH will hear reviews of OSHA construction activities and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) efforts. The group will hear presentations on the application of OSHA's 1,3-butadiene standard to construction employment and standards for cranes used in construction. Presentations on OSHA's efforts on ergonomics, the agency's budget, Fiscal Year 1997 initiatives, interpretation of enforcement data, the use of OSHA settlement agreements to improve employee protection and employee training certification also are scheduled. Work groups will report, and the full committee will discuss their findings.

Written data or views may be submitted, preferably with 20 copies, to the OSHA Office of Public Affairs. Requests to make oral presentations should advise the Office of Public Affairs of the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear and the content of the presentation. Persons who request the opportunity to address ACCSH may be allowed to speak, as time permits, at the discretion of the committee chair. The 15-member Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health advises OSHA on standards and policies designed to protect construction workers from workplace hazards. ACCSH includes five representatives each of employers and employees, two representatives of state government, two public representatives and one federal representative. Members serve two-year terms.
