OSHA Press Release: OSHA Training Institute FY 97 Course Schedule Now Available [08/19/1996]

The latest course schedule for the OSHA Training Institute in Des Plaines, Ill., is now available, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced today.

The Institute offers 79 courses covering topics such as process safety, indoor air quality, confined spaces and construction operations, among others.

A total of 7,500 trainees from OSHA, private-sector management and labor, federal agencies and local governments are expected to complete institute courses in FY 97.

The Institute awards American Board of Industrial Hygiene Certification Maintenance points for more than 30 of its courses, Board of Certified Safety Professionals Continuance of Certification points for 78 of its courses, and contact hours which meet the criteria established by the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses for most of the Institute's courses.

The Institute's programs include simulated workplace environments and safety and industrial hygiene laboratories. The courses stress hands-on instruction in hazard recognition and control, including the use of monitoring instruments, sampling methods and other techniques.

In addition, the FY 97 schedule for each of 12 OSHA education centers is included. These centers are: Georgia Tech Research Institute, Atlanta, Ga.; Maple Woods Community College, Kansas City, Mo.; Red Rocks Community College/Trinidad State Junior College, Lakewood, Colo.; University of California-San Diego, Calif.; Keene State College, Manchester, N.H.; AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department/West Virginia University/Occupational Health Foundation, Washington, D.C.; Niagara County Community College, Lockport, N.Y.; Texas Engineering Extension Service/Texas Safety Association, Arlington, Texas; Northern Illinois University/Construction Safety Council/National Safety Council, DeKalb, Ill.; University of Minnesota/Minnesota Safety Council/University of Cincinnati, St. Paul, Minn.; Eastern Michigan University/United Automobile Workers, Ypsilanti, Mich.; and the University of Washington, Seattle.
