The National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and
Health (NACOSH) workgroup on hazard communication (HazCom) will meet in
Washington to review and complete its report July 23-24, the U.S. Department of
Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced today.
The workgroup was formed to recommend ways to simplify
material safety data sheets, reduce paperwork associated with the hazard
communication standard, improve the effectiveness of worker training and revise
enforcement policies to focus on the most serious hazards. The meeting, which
is open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. on July
23 and, if necessary, from 8:30 a.m. to no later than 3 p.m. on July 24 in Room
N4437 B-D of the Frances Perkins Building at 200 Constitution Ave., N.W.,
Washington, D.C.
The entire meeting will be devoted to completing a report
on improving OSHA's hazard communication program for presentation to the full
committee and submission to OSHA. Since the report is near completion, written
data, views or comments may be submitted and included in the record but cannot
be incorporated in the final report.
For further information or to submit material (preferably
with 20 copies), contact Joanne Goodell, Directorate of Policy, Room N-3641,
200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210, telephone (202) 219-8021,
extension 107.
NACOSH was established by the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of 1970 to advise the secretaries of labor and health and human
services on occupational safety and health programs and policies. Members of
the 12-person advisory committee are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and
experience in occupational safety and health.
Notice of the final HazCom workgroup meeting is scheduled
to appear in today's Federal Register.
