On Wednesday, Dec. 13, the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) will meet to review reinvention initiatives from both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

"We are looking forward to sharing the many exciting projects and plans we have for extending our resources and making a greater impact on workplace safety and health," said Assistant Secretary Joseph A. Dear in announcing the agenda for the meeting.

The meeting, open to the public, will run from 9 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. in Room N3437 of the Frances Perkins Building at 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. The meeting also will include a brief legislative update and a report from the NACOSH hazard communication workgroup.

The public is also welcome to attend earlier sessions of the NACOSH workgroup on hazard communication in the same room from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 and 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The workgroup will report to the full committee on its efforts to identify ways to improve chemical hazard communication. NACOSH is seeking ideas to simplify material safety data sheets, reduce required paperwork, improve the effectiveness of worker training and revise enforcement policies to focus on the most serious hazards.

Written data, views or comments may be submitted, preferably with 20 copies to Joanne Goodell, Directorate of Policy, Room N-3641, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Submissions received prior to the meeting will be provided to committee members and included in the meeting records. An official record of the meeting will be available for public inspection in the OSHA Technical Data Center in Room N2625 of the Frances Perkins Building.

Anyone wishing to make an oral presentation should notify Goodell before the meeting. The request should state the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear and a brief outline of the content of the presentation. Persons who request the opportunity to address the committee may be allowed to speak, as time permits, at the discretion of the committee chair.

Individuals with disabilities who wish to attend the meeting and who require special accommodations should contact Tom Hall, OSHA Division of Consumer Affairs, at the above address or telephone (202) 219-8615.

Notice of the advisory committee meeting appeared in the Nov. 24, 1995 Federal Register.
