An updated version of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) technical manual is now available to provide technical information and guidance to employers who need help in identifying and controlling hazards as part of their safety and health programs, the U. S. Labor Department announced today.

Originally issued as a compliance directive, the revised 300-plus page manual is now considered an educational document. The 21 chapters have been reorganized into nine topic sections covering sampling, measuring methods and instruments; health hazards; safety hazards; construction operations; health care facilities; ergonomics; personal protective equipment; safety and health management and general information.

The technical manual includes a new chapter on controlling lead exposures in the construction industry. Chapters covering sampling, technical equipment and sample shipping and handling have been revised and updated.
