OSHA CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO MEET MAY 25-26

The Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH) will meet May 25-26 in Room N3437 A-D of the Frances Perkins Building at 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C., the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced today.

The meeting, which is open to the public, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 25 and 8:30 a.m. to approximately 12 p.m. on May 26. On May 25, OSHA will brief ACCSH on construction standards under development including steel erection and scaffolds. The agency also will discuss its standards priority planning process and activities of its Office of Construction and Engineering.

In the afternoon, the ACCSH work groups on hexavalent chromium, safety and health programs, gender issues and industrial trucks will meet. On May 26, OSHA will review its national and regional inspection emphasis programs. The work groups will report to the full committee, and ACCSH will discuss the work group reports.

Written data, views or comments may be submitted, preferably with 20 copies, to Tom Hall, OSHA Division of Consumer Affairs, Room N-3647, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Submissions received prior to the meeting will be provided to committee members and included in the meeting records. An official record of the meeting will be available for public inspection at the OSHA Docket Office, Room N2625, telephone (202) 219-7894.

Anyone wishing to make an oral presentation should notify Tom Hall in the Division of Consumer Affairs (at the above address) before the meeting. The request should state the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear and a brief outline of the content of the presentation. Persons who request the opportunity to address the committee may be allowed to speak, as time permits, at the discretion of the committee chair.

The 15-member advisory committee advises OSHA on standards and policies designed to protect construction workers from workplace hazards. ACCSH consists of five representatives each of employers and employees, two representatives of state government, two public representatives and one federal representative.
