Gregory R. Watchman has joined the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as deputy assistant secretary for occupational safety and health, OSHA director Joseph A. Dear announced today.

"I am delighted to add Greg Watchman to our team," Dear said. "His legislative experience and expertise will be critical as we continue our efforts to redesign and transform OSHA into an agency that is responsive to the needs of both employers and workers." Dear said Watchman would oversee legislative and interagency affairs.

Watchman joins two other OSHA deputy assistant secretaries-- Emily Sheketoff, who serves as chief of staff, and James Stanley, who oversees enforcement.

Since 1993, Watchman served as chief labor counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources, Subcommittee on Labor. Previously he held positions with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor and with the Washington, D.C., law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Watchman received his bachelor's degree in political science from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., and his law degree from Cornell Law School in Ithaca, N.Y. He lives in Washington, D.C.
