The Blizzard of '96, which paralyzed nearly a third of the
country for a week in January, may have put us into a skid but we're not
spinning our wheels. The unemployment rate remained below six percent for the
17th month in a row.
Undoubtedly, January's weather had a negative impact on the
employment numbers for the month. The lingering effect of the federal
government shutdown may have had some effect, too.
We look forward to a clearer, brighter picture on jobs --
and better weather.
