Our nation's economy remains strong.

Today's employment situation report shows an unemployment rate of only 4.4 percent for the month of February, the twentieth consecutive month below 5 percent. We created 275,000 new jobs this month...and more than 18 million since the President came into office in 1993.

Nearly every sector of the economy showed growing employment-from construction to computer services and from retail to engineering. I believe that the message behind the numbers in today's report is: opportunity.

The benefits of our nation's economy are widely shared. Unemployment rates for blacks and Hispanics remain near historic lows, and workers' wages continue to rise.
