I want to offer my congratulations to ABC Inc. President Robert Iger and Communications Workers of America Union President Morton Bahr for working diligently to settle this dispute. The tentative agreement--which will allow the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians to get back to work--proves that collective bargaining can, in the end, work.

I was pleased to work with these two leaders, who never lost sight of their common goal: the health of the company and the security of ABC's workers. The rapidly changing global economy and technological advances offer real challenges to this country, and I believe it is important for both corporate and union leaders to work together as we define the workplace of the future.

Let me also thank the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service's Richard Barnes for his work and the agency's effort to reach an agreement for a new contract.
