I am deeply troubled and dismayed that there has been another early release of time sensitive Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data.

This is clearly unacceptable and I have asked BLS Commissioner Katharine Abraham for a full report.

I have also asked the Inspector General to include this incident in his current review of BLS procedures.

As another system protection, I have also asked the Chief Information Officer here at the Department of Labor to review all BLS procedures to ensure no new system is put into place until there is full testing.

Maintaining the well deserved integrity of the Bureau of Labor Statistics data is one of my top priorities as Secretary of Labor. I'm moving aggressively to ensure all steps are underway to protect that system so the public can continue to have access and confidence in this critical economic data.
