Today's employment situation report paints a solid and sustainable picture of our nation's economy. The unemployment rate for September was 4.6 percent --virtually unchanged in four months--and under 5 percent for 15 months, the best we've seen in almost 30 years.

We continue to see increases in the service and health industries, as well as in the retail sector, computers and the high-tech industry. And wages continue to rise, indicating that workers are sharing in the nation's prosperity.

President Clinton's economic plan of investment in education and training, coupled with a balanced budget, continues to pay off for America's working families.
