"Today's reports on income and poverty clearly show that the
President's economic plan is working.
3.7 million fewer people are on the poverty roles since 1993 and the
poverty rate has declined 1.8 percentage points to 13.3 percent during the same
period. For the fourth year in a row real median income for families grew -- up
8.6 percent since 1993.
Poverty among African American families is at its lowest level ever
while Hispanic household income has risen by nearly 11 percent in the past two
years -- the largest two-year increase in Hispanic income on record.
While this news is encouraging, there's more work that remains to be
done. This Administration is committed to ensuring that no American is left
behind during this prosperous time. That is why increasing the minimum wage is
vitally important to help insure no one who works full time lives in poverty."
