I want to congratulate the Communications Workers of America and Bell Atlantic for working around the clock to quickly resolve their differences. This tentative agreement proves once again that by keeping the lines of communication open, management and labor can reach common ground.

Increasing competitiveness and providing meaningful job security are not mutually exclusive goals. This tentative agreement will enable Bell Atlantic workers to stay at the cutting edge of the information age. CWA President Morty Bahr and Bell Atlantic Chairman Ivan Seidenberg demonstrated how committed leadership and mutual respect can make the difference and secure the future.
