"As we begin the month of March, our economy continues on the march. Today we have 15 million more reasons why America is working.

"The February Employment Situation Report shows that since President Clinton took office, over 15 million new jobs have been created--93% have been in the private sector. More Americans are working today than ever before.

"Last month's unemployment rate was 4.6 percent. The unemployment rate has been below 5.5% for over 2 years--and at 4.7 or below since November.

"Today's report also provides clear evidence of strong job growth throughout the economy with payroll employment rising by 310,000. In the services industry, employment rose by 146,000. Job growth continued in engineering and management services, computer services and health services.

"This marks the second month that the report includes data that shows the correlation between education and employment. Unemployment for non-high school graduates continued its decline--dropping over 20 percent in the last year. That's a welcome sign, but it's still well above the unemployment rate of college graduates.

"When it comes to earnings and employment, the difference is in degrees--education degrees.

"We still have work to do, but America is on the right track. As our economy expands, so does opportunity for more Americans. The President's strategy of fiscal responsibility and sound investments is reaping big dividends for our country. Our economy is on the march."
