The September Employment Situation Report shows that "13" is a very lucky number for our nation's working families. I'm pleased to report that 13.2 million net new jobs have been created since President Clinton came into office.

The American economy is clearly strong and consistent, with the unemployment rate remaining at 4.9 percent--the sixth consecutive month the rate has been 5 percent or lower and the 37th consecutive month that the rate has been below 6.0 percent.

The report shows gains in the transportation and service sectors, as well as continued and impressive growth in the high-wage occupations--proving that what you learn has a significant impact on what you earn.

As wages continue to grow at a steady pace, we are well-positioned to help all workers move into the 21st century. This administration's economic agenda of making real investments in American workers can--and will continue to--pay substantial dividends for all of us.
