Secretary of Labor Alexis M. Herman today announced the addition of the
American Nurses Association, a national organization representing 187,000
members across the country, to the Labor Department's Century of Service Honor
Roll. The honor roll recognizes labor organizations that have served their
members for at least 100 years.
"I believe that the American Nurses Association and I share the same
goal: improving the lives of working Americans, so they can enjoy a rising
standard of living and the opportunity to build an even better life for their
children," said Herman. "For its tireless efforts on behalf of nurses, the
American Nurses Association has truly earned a place on the Century of Service
Honor Roll."
The American Nurses Association was established in New York City on
September 2, 1896. The association's seal now joins those from 37 other
centennial unions in the honor roll exhibit.
Established in 1992, the Century of Service Honor Roll features
highlights of American labor history. The exhibit is on display in the north
lobby of the Frances Perkins Building, the headquarters of the U.S. Department
of Labor, in Washington, D.C.
