"The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) publication of an experimental Consumer Price Index (CPI) using geometric means is part of its continuing commitment to making the CPI a more accurate measure of the cost of living."

"As part of an ongoing BLS research effort, this method will be evaluated for possible adoption in the official CPI. The experimental index will provide useful information to the BLS and the public on potential methods to improve this critical indicator."
