"Marty Slate was a tireless advocate for insuring the pensions of
working Americans. Because of his work, millions of workers' will have a more
secure retirement.
Marty was one of the administration's leaders in developing the
Retirement Protection Act, which ensured working peoples' pensions were
protected during corporate mergers. He proved he was willing to act whenever
peoples' pensions were in jeopardy.
Marty was an original member of Secretary Robert B. Reich's team and his
hard work was appreciated and respected by the former Secretary, the President
and myself. All of Marty's colleagues at the Department of Labor will miss his
energy, dedication and good nature.
On behalf of the Department of Labor, I offer condolences to Marty
Slate's family, especially his wife, Dr. Caroline Poplin."
