Today's employment report, and news of a rise in hourly earnings, bring good holiday tidings for working Americans.

Although the unemployment rate rose slightly to 5.4 percent, we continue to see steady, sustainable job growth.

The economy added another 118,000 new jobs in November, bringing the total number of new jobs since January 1993 to 10.9 million -- 93 percent of them in the private sector.

As we approach the end of 1996, the economic trends bode well for working Americans. The challenge is to keep this train on track and add more passengers.
