Today Labor Secretary Robert B. "This high-tech career resource provides a valuable service for government workers nationwide facing career transitions," said Reich. "Today we're giving federal employees the tools they need to take charge of their future." Located at http://safetynet.doleta.gov, the site provides up-to-date information on the rights and benefits of federal employees affected by downsizing. It includes a broad range of tools that displaced employees can use to realize new career opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Created and developed by three Council for Excellence in Government Fellows, the Safetynet web site provides information to federal workers on:
The arrangement between the Department of Labor and OPM, signed into agreement through a memorandum of understanding addresses two key needs -- making the most up-to-date information on careers instantly available to federal workers everywhere, and assistance across the nation for all federal workers involved in making career transitions. Specifically the interagency cooperation involves both the Labor Department's web site for federal workers, "Planning Your Future: A Federal Employee's Survival Guide," as well as Department of Labor career transition services at 10 federal regional locations available to all federal employees affected by downsizing. The safetynet Internet site also connects with the government's comprehensive job-listing service, USA Jobs, located at http://www.usajobs.opm.gov. Workers may also access the Labor Department's America's Job Bank Internet service (http://www.ajb.dni.us), a nationwide employment service linking both private and public sector employers to job seekers.
