celebration of the National Council of Negro Women's (NCNW) first publication,
Voices of Vision: African American Women on the Issues, hosted by Dorothy
Height, President of NCNW, on Wednesday, October 9.
The journal, a collection of works from noteworthy scholars, activists
and educators, chronicles issues facing African American women and their
families, such as leadership, literacy, the school-to-work transition,
affirmative action, female-headed households and nutrition. All 25 authors of
the 300-page journal, which include Julianne Malveaux, Marian Wright Edelman
and former Glass Ceiling Director Rene Redwood, will be recognized at the
reception.
"For more than 61 years the National Council has led the way for the
economic advancement and civil rights of African American women and their
families," said Reich. "I am honored to celebrate with those who have
contributed to this book and to the advancement of the African American
community."
The reception marks the beginning of a three-day inauguration of the
Dorothy I. Height Leadership Institute which will serve as the nerve center for
African American women to share ideas and problem-solve. During the inaugural

of women in all aspects of the workforce.
The reception takes place Wednesday, October 9 from 3 -5 p.m. at the
Willard Hotel Intercontinental, 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington,
