Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich will spend Labor Day with transit workers at New York City's Penn Station and health care workers at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and will talk directly to American workers all over the country through dozens of radio and television call-in shows as well as an on-line internet conference.

Reich will begin his annual Labor Day National Dialogue with American Workers in New York City. Following a meeting with New York labor leaders, Reich will visit with dozens of transport employees--including reservation agents, baggage handlers, ticket agents, track maintenance and on-board train personnel at New York's Penn Station.

Later that afternoon, the secretary will share a brown bag lunch with doctors, nurses, orderlies, administrators, cafeteria personnel, linen workers and maintenance staff in the cafeteria of George Washington University Medical Center in Washington.

As he has done in past Labor Days, Reich will take to the airwaves for the remainder of the day to talk directly with American workers. He will participate in more than a dozen local and national call-in radio talk shows. In addition, he will go on-line via a special Business Week magazine Internet conference.

Reich will deliver his annual State of the American Workforce address, titled "Beyond Labor Daze: Seven New Directions At Work" on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The speech is sponsored by the Center for National Policy. Reich will unveil seven key trends he has identified during his four years as labor secretary visiting countless workers in hundreds of occupations across the United States.
