Record 7 Million Visits in July [08/02/1996] For more information call: (202)219-6871
"The "hits" just keep on coming for America's Job Bank (AJB), a record breaking 7 .1 million hits or visits in July to the free, computerized job bank on the Internet that links employers to job seekers," announced Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich today. "AJB is going off the charts. Beginning with just 78,000 job listings a year and a half ago, today more than 500,000 jobs are listed with the bank. Just three months ago, 1,500 employers were listing job openings; today, 3,000 are, with 20 to 30 new employers added daily. July's figures show that employers are taking advantage of rapid nationwide exposure for job openings, and job seekers are tapping into the largest pool of active job opportunities in the country," Reich continued. Last month, Reich announced that in September, corporate giant, IBM would begin listing all of its job openings, 24,000 a year, on America's Job Bank. America's Job Bank collects, connects and continuously updates job openings from 1,800 nationwide employment service offices and from private companies which enter openings directly on the automated job bank. The bank also links to 80 private placement agencies and directly links to job openings on corporate home pages. Approximately 95 percent of job listings are in the private sector; 28 percent, professional/managerial; 17 percent, manufacturing/processing; 27 percent, clerical/sales/service; and 27% blue collar. America's Job Bank can be reached on the Internet's World Wide Web at "http://www.ajb.dni.us", or by calling your local public employment service.
