This economy is acting like a fire work show that never ends and has no duds.

June's unemployment numbers bring a double-barreled burst of good news for American workers: vibrant job growth and finally, a boom in hourly wages.

This wage hike for Americans is clearly the beginning of something to celebrate. Four years ago, the unemployment rate was at 7.8 percent. Today it is at 5.3 percent. At the beginning of this administration, the President promised to create 8 million new jobs. Today we hit a perfect 10.

After 22 months of unemployment below 6%, spectacular job growth in 1996 and no sign of inflation on the horizon, it is time to invite the nation's lowest paid workers to the celebration. The Senate must vote to raise the minimum wage next week. We need to make sure that the lives of all working Americans can be brightened by the ongoing economic good news.
