The March employment numbers wrap up a very solid quarter
for job growth. The addition of another 140,000 jobs to the economy means that
the average job growth for the first quarter was 206,000 a month. The
unemployment rate of 5.6 percent marks the 19th month in a row that it has
stayed under 6 percent.
All of this points to continued steady economic
performance in 1996.
