The American public is holding its collective breath while this work stoppage idles more than 85,000 workers across the country.

Clearly the best way to settle this dispute is by both parties coming to the bargaining table. In the meantime, I would hope that workers' claims to unemployment benefits be given every consideration. Unemployment compensation determinations are made by states. Nothing in federal law prohibits states from paying these workers if allowed by state statute.
