Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich today issued the
following the statement after the Senate today voted 94-5 approval of an
amendment by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., to strip the pension reversion
proposal from the budget reconciliation bill:
"This overwhelming vote is a victory for common sense and a
victory for America's working people and their pensions. "But we still have
work to do because this pension grab was approved by the House. Today's vote
shows this for what it is - permission for overnight raids on worker pension
funds. The President will not allow the pensions earned by working people to be
jeopardized."
