Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich meets today with a
group of senior citizens from the Washington area to discuss Congressional
proposals to cut Medicare.
The meeting, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Labor
Department's sixth-floor cafeteria, will give Reich a chance to hear first-hand
about the concerns of seniors and the impact the proposed Medicare cuts will
have on their lives.
Reich is one of the three Cabinet members who are trustees
of the Medicare system.
The 50 to 60 senior citizens are from the District of
Columbia and from the Maryland communities of Bowie, Silver Spring and
Greenbelt.
The meeting with the seniors comes only hours after the
latest proposals to cut Medicare were approved by House committees and sent to
the floor.
