U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

OFFICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS

STATEMENT OF SECRETARY OF LABOR ROBERT B. REICH

Friday, Sept. 15, 1995

For more information call: 202/219-8211.

I salute the continued efforts of Local 12 members to highlight the impact of proposed Congressional budget cuts on the Labor Department's mission. These cuts would block the path to new work for thousands of Americans who need job training, eliminate summer jobs for young people who want to work, and reverse two decades of progress in making workplaces safer. The stakes are high for American workers and it is important to continue to educate the public about what the true cost of budget cuts will be.
