Nancy Coffey, former communications director for Senator
Howard Metzenbaum and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, has been
named deputy assistant secretary of labor for public affairs.
"Nancy Coffey's experience in journalism and management
and on Capitol Hill will be invaluable assets in communicating issues that are
important to American workers," said Labor Secretary Robert B. Reich. "I
consider the labor department fortunate to have her as part of its team."
Coffey worked for former Ohio Senator Metzenbaum as both
communications director and chief of staff from 1986-1995. Most recently she
was communications director for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities,
which researches federal and state budgets and fiscal policy.
Prior to that she was news manager for WRC TV in
Washington, D.C. from 1982-86 and worked as correspondent and news executive
for Westinghouse Broadcasting stations in Washington, D.C., New York City,
Pittsburgh and Boston.
Coffey earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from the
University of Illinois in 1970 and a master's degree in broadcast journalism
from Boston University in 1972.
